Paris Olympics 2024 | Some of My Favorite Marketing Moments

Olympics 2024: Mika’s Top Commercials and Smart Collaborations

The 2024 Paris Olympics weren’t just a showcase of athletic prowess, but also a platform for innovative marketing, fashion statements, and unexpected collaborations. Here’s a rundown of the standout moments that captured global attention:

1. Pre Olympics: Emily in Paris x Noah Lyles

To my delight this fun collaboration featured the popular Netflix show Emily in Paris character Emily interacting with Olympic Gold Winner sprinter Noah Lyles in Paris, blending the worlds of fashion, entertainment, and sports.

Smart Integration: By combining a trendy TV show with an Olympic athlete, this campaign appeals to both sports fans and pop culture enthusiasts, effectively broadened the audience for Olympic marketing.

2. The Grand Reveal

The 2024 Paris Olympics witnessed a cultural phenomenon when Beyoncé, in an unprecedented move, partnered with the United States Olympic Committee to introduce Team USA. This collaboration masterfully blended music, sports, and patriotism, creating a moment that transcended traditional Olympic marketing.

In a series of electrifying promotional videos, Beyoncé introduced key members of Team USA, including gymnastics icon Simone Biles, track sensation Sha’Carri Richardson, sprint champion Noah Lyles, swimming powerhouses Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky. The backdrop to these introductions was one of my favorite tracks “YA YA” from her acclaimed album “Cowboy Carter.”

Smart Integration: Leveraging Beyoncé’s star power and music with Olympic athletes creates a powerful cultural moment, engaging a diverse audience and elevating the profile of Team USA.

3. Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg’s “Odd Couple Olympics”

Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg reunited for a hilarious series of commercials for Uber Eats, titled “Odd Couple Olympics.” The duo attempted various Olympic sports while ordering and eating different cuisines, emphasizing Uber Eats’ diverse food options.

Smart Integration: Not only did NBC capture a few vignettes but they took the integration deeper where. Uber Eats offered special “Martha & Snoop” meal combos, featuring unlikely but delicious food pairings! Delicious.

3. Comcast presents JOY

This commercial likely focused on the emotional aspect of the Olympics, showcasing how joy connects people across different cultures and backgrounds.

Smart Integration: By emphasizing the universal emotion of joy, Comcast positions itself as a facilitator of human connection, aligning its brand with the unifying spirit of the Olympics.

4. Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson’s “Commentary We Didn’t Know We Needed”

NBC surprised viewers with a special “Alternative Commentary” option featuring Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson. Their hilarious takes on various Olympic events became instant viral sensations.

Smart Integration: Peacock (NBC’s streaming service) offered an exclusive “Hart & Thompson Cut” of each day’s events, driving subscriptions. This particular episode highlights Jordan Chiles as Keenan names her “Destiny” Chiles. As the Women’s Olympic Team is named…FAAFO!

5. It’s OK by Hyundai

This campaign focused on messages of reassurance and support, possibly relating to the challenges faced by athletes or viewers.

Smart Integration: By addressing the emotional and mental aspects of competition and daily life, Hyundai positions itself as a supportive brand, resonating with viewers on a more personal level during the high-pressure atmosphere of the Olympics.

Hope you enjoyed a couple of marketing commercials that brought joy, reminded you the importance of finding your passion and highlighted the intersection of fashion and sports.

Always Stay Curious,
